boiler efficiency

It looks as though the pressure goes up to between 5 & 10%. All of my radiators get hot (steam heat) but it takes awhile. I have the adjustable valves on most of them. One plumber said I’ll only get another 7% from a new gas boiler, another one said he doubts that it is at 77%, and a new one would give me close to 90% efficiency. My house is buttoned up and I have new replacement windows, an adjustable thermostat, etc. I’m pretty conservative with the temperature. The house was built in 1927 and it is about 1700 sq.ft.

  • Michaela Stockdale says:

Insulation materials used in 1927 are next to zero in efficiency compared to present state of the art materials. If you spend the money to get 90% efficiency from a new unit, just think how much more efficiency you would realize if you had the insulation of the structure up-graded as well.

Would be an economic fact finding plus to see if up-grading the present structure’s insulation would be cost effective in terms of replacing the 77% efficient boiler with a 90%. They say, “Follow the money.”

judging by what bu say your house is probably air tight .when u have 77% eff. that means 23% percent of your heating dollars go up the chimminy.keeping that in mind if u put in a 90% unit the 13% will pay for the unit in about 5 years .being what fuel prices are…………good luck
